I Got Carried Away

I know I did, but someone asked for our help on Facebook.

Bob Barrette created a Facebook page about the Lagasse Family. Bob and I met virtually on the Internet a few years ago. We are distant cousins but we share the same passion for our ancestors.

To make a long story short, someone posted a message and he added this old picture…

Joseph LaGasa

That was enough to trigger my obsession for old pictures and other people’s ancestors.

Little did I know that Bob Barrette had all the answers to this request.

I wanted to see if anyone knew how my family connects to Andre or Michel Mignier. I know that my 4 Great Grandfather is Mitchel Lagasse and his father was John Lagasse. There were many names changes coming into the US. I know that my GG Grandfather changed our name when he moved to Seattle. Joseph LaGasa and James LaGasa. Our family did a lot here is Seattle. Can tell more later.

Let’s say I got carried away a little.

To be continued…

Keoni LaGasa LOL Ok… That Mitchel is not my GG Grandpa. I actually do have my family tree but trying to find the connection to Canada. So here it is.

Keoni LaGasa My Great Grandpa John B. LaGasa Sr. 1853-1913
      GGGrandpa Joseph Lagasse 1822-1880
      GGGGrandpa Mitchell Lagasse 1817
GGGGGrandpa John or Jean Lagasse Unknown DOB & DOD

Keoni LaGasa I will try to get my cousin well our cousin to join on here. He has a lot of information on our family history. He did a lot of research.

Keoni LaGasa Oh You can see my family tree on Geni.com I think it is. It’s under John LaGasa. I’m still adding to it completing every detail.

Pierre Lagacé This does not work… GGGrandpa Joseph Lagasse 1822-1880
      GGGGrandpa Mitchell Lagasse 1817

      Pierre Lagacé 1822-1817 = 5

Pierre Lagacé he had a son when he was 5?

Pierre Lagacé Do you have the names of their wives? It could help linking all these Lagacés to André Mignier the ancestor.

Pierre Lagacé Quote… I will try to get my cousin well our cousin to join on here. He has a lot of information on our family history. He did a lot of research… I WILL BE WAITING.

Keoni LaGasa Ok Here is the correction. Michell is correct 1817 – 1905 says he married. Delia Roche. Joseph born 1841 – 1920 This is a picture of Joseph LaGasa’s Family.

Pierre Lagacé Mitchell Lagassa, “United States Census, 1870”

      Birth Year (Estimated): 1817
      Gender: Male
      Age (Original): 53y

      Delia Lagassa F 9y Michigan
      Olive Lagassa F 6y Michigan

Pierre Lagacé I have found all these children for Mitchell Lagassa and Delia Rock…

      Pierre Lagacé Joseph LaGasa
      1841 – 1920
      Mary Lagassa
      1844 – 1922
      Frank Lagassa
      1845 – 1915
      James Lagassa
      1849 – 1920
      Mitchell Lagassa
      1855 – 1940
      Adelaide Lagassa
      1859 – 1914
      Delia Lagassa
      1861 – 1944
      Olive Lagassa
      1864 – 1952

Pierre Lagacé I believe that the picture is of Joseph Lagassa and Eliza Jane Wilson with their children.

Pierre Lagacé The children I found… Frank Lagassa
      1864 – 1932
      Joseph Lagassa
      1873 –
      Mitchell James Lagassa
      1877 – 1941
      Ida Lagassa
      1880 – 1933
      Milton Cleveland Lagassa
      1884 – 1948

Pierre Lagacé But then I could be way of track.

Pierre Lagacé One thing certain is that Mitchell Lagassa aka Michel Lagacé must be a descendant of André Mignier. The problem is to find the missing link. If only we could find the marriage certificate of Michel Lagacé and Delia Roch, Rock or Larocque.

Pierre Lagacé Marriage around 1840 since Joseph could be their first child (born 1841)

Pierre Lagacé Bob Barrette had all the answers! I added some more information along the way.

Pierre Lagacé It was worth the search. I found a new 4th cousin 4 times removed and I linked a whole lot of Lagassa down South that know nothing about the French-Canadian roots.

I know I did, but someone asked for our help on Facebook. Bob Barrette created a…

  1. Hi, I see you talk about Mitchel Lagasa and Delia Rock, do you have anymore information on them, or their children? I’m directly related to them, they’re my great, great, great grandparents.

  2. In other news, Mitchel and Joseph were brothers? I’m pretty sure these guys are family. If Mitchel Lagasa and Delia Rock gave birth to a James Lagasa, who had another son named James Andrew Lagasa Jr. then that’s it.

  3. Lillian and James Andrew Lagasa were my great grandparents. In my family, everyone says Lillian committed suicide at the Sorrento Hotel in Seattle. Would that be online? I can’t find it.

    • I think this kind of information would be found on Websites that have you pay a fee to consult old newspapers.
Can’t remember which Websites they are.
